As all trends go, interior design trends tend to come and go. The same thing happens with bedroom decor styles. The thing is, when it comes to your bedroom, you probably shouldn’t fall for every trend that comes by, since it’s the place where you’ll need to unwind and relax at the end of every day. So which bedroom styles are absolutely out? Here is what real estate agents have to say.

“Cutesy” Sayings

Okay, so these became huge in the early 2000’s and have stayed strong ever since. You know those signs that say “live, laugh, love” or “rose all day.” Word art should be avoided, according to agent Louis Adler of REAL New York. He says: “The use of of abstract images or graphics with slogans and sayings as artwork in your bedroom is definitely overdone. This will most likely be replaced by one large painting or photograph that covers (most of) your wall.”

All White All Over

While having a clean look is always in style, overdoing it can make your home look sterile. Besides, keeping the room perfectly clean is a nightmare. Robin Kencel of Compass says: “There’s a ‘more is more’ design sensibility emerging. Layered patterns, textures and colors are being seen, and I believe they will make their way to the bedroom.”

Overemphasis On Tech

For a while, having a huge flatscreen mounted on your bedroom wall was one of the most desired features in the room. Now that we’re all been online most of the day, more people are embracing the idea that the bedroom should be a tech-free sanctuary for, gasp, resting.

Industrial Touches

Exposed brick was a massive trend, along with ceramic tiles and the use of cement. While these were considered modern and chic, people seem to be gravitating towards warmer and more comforting materials instead. Gerard Splendore of Warburg Realty says: “Walking on cold, hard surfaces in the bedroom is not warm and fuzzy. Flooring featuring warm wood, carpet, and area rugs is timeless and will be seen more.”

Bed Sets In A Bag

While this pack that usually comes with all matching sheets, comforter, and pillowcases are quite convenient, the matchy-matchy style is seeing some decline. People are becoming more interested in adding more of their personal style in the look of their rooms, so all matching bed sets may not be as popular as they once were.
